02nd November 2016, 03:11PM

A special tribute ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of November 4th in memory of Mr. Herbert Winston Vaughan during Matchday 10 of the Mizoram Premier League. Local Football fans have been invited by the MFA to partake as we pay our respects.

Born on the 2nd of August, 1926, Herbert Winston Vaughan, also known as 'Jumbo' or Pu Zama during the time, served in the British Army and was stationed in Mizoram during his time in India. An ardent football fan, he played football at AR Lammual, now venue of the Premier local football competition, The Mizoram Premier League. He later married Ms. Rokamlovi, sister of Mr. A. Thanglura (L) in 1945.

Mr. Vaughan passed on January 19th earlier this year and it was his request that a ceremony be held at the same venue where he had lived his passion.

His family contacted the Mizoram Football Association communicating the wishes of Mr. Vaughan. The MFA, duly decided to honor his final wish and a ceremony is scheduled to take place at 7:00 pm prior to and during the fixture between Chanmari West FC and Aizawl FC.

This ceremony will be attended by 27 children and grandchildren of Mr. Vaughan at AR Lammual. Mr. Vaughan personally sent a congratulatory message when the Mizoram Football Team won the Santosh Trophy in 2014
