The JSJ Fight League coordinated by JSJ Fitpro took place last night, the 26th of February at the rooftop of Millennium Centre with great success. Last night’s event proved that the Mizo people have a passion for Mixed Martial Arts. All the tickets were sold off within 3 days.
The AIMMAA appointed well-experienced Samuel Lalrozama as the event commissioner. He has an interesting trail of accomplishments behind him, having refereed at UFC fight weeks as well. Under his supervision, 10 bouts were fought last night.
The event was broadcasted live by LPS vision and had many viewers both at the location and on screen as it is a game the Mizo people are fond of.
This event was organized under the supervision of Mizoram Mixed Martial Arts Association and North East Mixed Martial Art Association, and will most probably go on to become one of the most significant and prominent leagues in the country.
The main event was the International Lightweight in which Zorammawia and Congolese Hakizumwami contested. Zorammawia, representing India, defeated Hakizumwami in the second round with a submission knock out through choke.
This fight was engrossing. Hakizumwami, with his long arms was very competent at Stand Up Fighter so Zorammawia attempted to wrestle his opponent to the floor and subdue him with punches and choke and finally succeeded.
The Co-Main Event National FlyWeight too had the full attention of the audience. Zorinmawia defeated Shivajit Chowdhury from West Bengal with a knockout in the first round. Zorinmawia displayed a good combination of attacking skills. He had Shivajit on the floor, sat on him and repeatedly showered him with strikes. The referee brought the fight to a stop as Shivajit Chowdhury was in danger of losing consciousness.
One of the bouts had women fighters to the enthusiasm of the crowd. In the Fly Weight match, Lalvenhimi from Khawhai defeated opponent K. Lalrinpuii from Venghlui with a rear naked choke.
One of the pioneers in MMA among the Mizos, Dengthanchhunga of Kulikawn defeated Samuel Lalrinchhana from Lawipu in just 30 seconds with a strike that made him hit the floor. Dengthanchhunga was declared the clear winner.
The crowd was also treated to a Special Muaythai Match in which Ngursaimawia bought his opponent Ayushman Mukherjee from Assam to the floor with a heavy strike in the first half. Ngursaimawia’s swift movement proved to be an advantage for him. He rained blows on Ayushman at the corner, and had Ayush subdued soon after. Doctors had to be called in but Ayush sustained no serious injury. Ngursaimawia was one of the clear winners of the night.
All the winners of the event went home with Rs.10,000 while the losers went home with Rs.5000. The fighters of the main event and the co-main event, however, received a larger sum. As of now, the number of fights to be held in this season is not yet certain. However, matches will be scheduled either monthly or bi-monthly.
